Find the game before making the move

A six-step orientation method for replacing premature action with a clearer model of the situation, incentives, resources, and next move.

Why this exists

Most poor decisions I make are not caused by a lack of effort. They begin one step earlier, when I accept the first description of the problem and start optimising inside it.

The framework forces a pause. It asks what is happening, who or what shapes the outcome, which resources matter, and what evidence would make the next move defensible.

The practical test

If the proposed action would stay the same after changing the framing, the framing probably has not gone deep enough. A useful reframe changes what you do, what you measure, or what you deliberately leave alone.
